Coconut Palm trees

Cocos nucifera which is popularly known as coconut palm tree has an age of about 100 years. The tree has an amazing yield of more than 100 coconuts per annum. These are generally found in the areas where the frosts are mild that is the entire tropical area or the Asia-Pacific region. There are two parts of a coconut namely the coir and the copra. The copra is the internal meat of the fruit and the coir is the external fibrous husk of the coconut.

Contrary to the popular belief that coconut water and coconut milk are the same things it should be made clear that the liquid with a light flavour added to it is the coconut water and the drink made out of grated or shredded coconuts is called the coconut milk. Both the drink are refreshing as well as nutritious to the human consumption.

The selection and usage of a coconut depends on various factors. The freshness of the coconut is generally retained for months. This property of a coconut makes it ideal for shipping to distant places as well. One place that is situated on the rim of the so called belt of coconuts is Hawaii which makes it an ideal destination for coconut lovers. But the coconuts are found here only in abundance and they are generally not of any commercial value unlike the coconuts found in rest of the parts of the world. The coconuts generally tend to get more refreshing when exposed to sunlight during development stages.
