Growing tobacco is not a hard task if you follow some strict guidelines. This crop requires a particular temperature to grow initially and another type of temperature during germination and harvesting. To grow them you first need to purchase tobacco seeds which are available in many stores. The seeds are smaller in size but before planting the seeds you need to prepare the soil first. Make sure that the soil is well-drained. Place the seeds or just intersperse them over the well drained soil. The soil should have a pH of 5.8 or a bit more. Do not plant the seeds when the weather is cold and frosty as because tobacco needs enough sunny weather to grow. Make sure that the temperature is between 70˚-80˚F when you have planted the seeds in the damp soil. However tobacco needs a good amount of humidity and grows well in tropical type of climate but now it grows almost in every climatic conditions provided the growth conditions are maintained.
To grow initially tobacco needs enough watering and rainfall. You can also use fertilizers for the soil to make it more productive for the crop. Use a fertilizer which has nitrate compounds and no chlorine. When the tobaccos seeds germinate and matures make sure that there is no rainfall. This is because it may rinse off the resins on the tobacco leaves and also hamper the growth of the crop. It requires a temperature of about 65˚-68˚F during the process of germination. A relatively cold weather in this time may sluggish down the rate of growth of tobacco but doesn’t harm so much. When you are ready for harvesting the crop remember that you have allowed a time gap of three months from the time of germination of the crop. Pick the tobacco leaves when they are matured and ripe enough.
