Rice is one of the most important crops that are consumed as the main food product in many countries. In order to grow this crop you need to have a considerable amount of space in your land. However you can also grow rice in your own garden provided you maintain all the conditions required for its growth. Rice requires a more or less tropical climatic condition for its growth. Cool climatic regions may however also grow rice but the process may be a bit time consuming as rice will not be productive until the required temperature is attained. Be sure that that there is a minimum temperature of 50˚F in the place where you are growing the crop. The summer season is best for its growth. In excessive cold or in the wintry weather season the crop dies out.
To begin the process of growing rice, collect rice seeds and plants it in the soil. The soil should have adequate water retention capacity. So you have to dig out the soil a bit so that you can drain water there. Fill the region with a layer of dirt, clay and rice fertilizers. Water should stand at least about 2-3 inches above this layer. Germination of rice may take a couple of months so you have to wait accordingly. Slowly the crop grows tall and attains the height of 4-5 inches. You need to increase the water level in the field up to about 3-4 inches this time. As soon you find that the germination process is over then it’s the time for you to begin the harvesting process. The change of color of the stalks from green to light brown or gold will indicate that your crop is mature enough to be harvested. Slowly pick and cut the stalks of rice and allow them to get dried. Your rice is now ready to be cooked.
