Chrysanthemum plant

The Chrysanthemum plant belongs to the sunflower or daisy family known as “Asteraceae”. The name “chrysanthemum” originates from the Greek word “krus anthemon” which means “gold flower”.

The chrysanthemum plant is native to Asia and northeastern Europe and is an ornamental plant grown for its cut flowers that are used for decorative purposes. The Chrysanthemum plant is a perennial plant that is a totally hassle-free plant that is easy to grow.

The plant should be planted in the early part of spring. It grows to a height of 50 to 150 cms. The flowers are found in a range of colours from golden, yellow, pink to white. Some parts of the Chrysanthemum plant are also edible and flowers of the yellow or white chrysanthemum is used for the preparation of Chrysanthemum tea.

The chrysanthemum flower symbolizes different things in different parts of the world. In Japan, it is seen that chrysanthemum symbolizes death and is used on graves and for funerals.

The chrysanthemum plant in order to be healthy and to produce attractive blooms needs good sunlight, a well-prepared fertile soil and proper watering and fertilizers at regular intervals. They can be grown from cuttings, seeds or from saplings. The process of germination would take anywhere between 8 to 25 days. A distance of 18 to 30 inches must be ensured between two plants in order to enjoy healthy plants, which would bear beautiful flowers.
