The Caladium is a plant that looks like it came straight from Alice in Wonderland. It’s a large-leafed plant with a mixture of pink, green and sometimes white leaves. The plant is a native of South America and Central America. The plant heavily relies on water to thrive. While this sounds like every plant it is especially true for the Caladium. They are usually found very close to water supplies such as streams or ponds. During dry spells the Caladium is dormant to conserve itself. During the dormant session the plant does a variety of things to survive.
The Caladium is a wild plant. It can adapt to a new area as long as it is treated right. First, the plant needs to be grown in a warm place. It can prosper in a cooler environment as a houseplant and will be no where as large as a warm climate Caladium. They need an ample amount of water, as stated above. Also, Caladiums grow better in shaded places. If given the right stage, the Caladium can grow to approximately three feet tall. There leaves can get up to just over a foot and a half long. The leaves, as said above, are colorful. They are also broad and, like the rest of the plant, poisonous. The bright colors and eccentric shape should be a warning not to touch or ingest any part of the plant.
