How to grow strawberries

Planting strawberries is as much fun as relishing their taste. To begin with one may go to the nursery nearby and pick some strawberry plants or may order them using a catalogue and work on the planting ground simultaneously. To note that the plants ordered or bought must have a certification of them being free from diseases. The simple reason is that strawberries may carry infections in the form of viruses that not only spreads rapidly in the cultivation area but might kill the crops too.

The cultivation area must be such that it has a splendid cultivation system that caters to multiple needs. The area must have access to full sun and should easily warm up in the spring. This would prevent the blossoms from getting destroyed by the late frosts. The ideal slope for this purpose would be south facing. The basic requirement for the bed planting is a depth of at least 12 inches or so. To make the soil completely fertile and rich in organic content as required by the strawberries, the person holding conducting the task must dig in sufficient amount of compost and catalyzing manure. The pH value of the soil is preferred slightly acidic and somewhat ranging in 5.5-6.5.

A five to seven inches big hole for each plant is required. The hole should be such that it may easily accommodate the deep roots. The crown of the plant must be slightly above the ground while setting it. The soil should be buried in a way that all the roots are properly covered. Also, the kind of method chosen for the planting decides the spacing as well. The most common technique used is the matted row technique. The merit behind using his technique is that the level of maintenance is way less than any other technique.
