Pumpkins are those varieties of plants which require special care in order to grow. You have to maintain some specific conditions if you want to grow pumpkins. Firstly assure the temperature and climate condition of the place where you are living. This is because they require a warm temperature to grow. But that doesn’t mean that you cannot grow them in cold regions. Ensure that the soil where you want to grow pumpkins has sufficient amount of nitrogen and potassium. If the soil doesn’t meet such specifications then supplement the deficiency with fertilizers. The soil should be aerated and fertile. You must notice the growth of the pumpkin vines otherwise they tend to cover up the entire space of the garden. If you reside in a hilly area, then it’s better to grow pumpkins inside your home. Also you can simultaneously grow them in hills if the soil is much organic and meets the soil specifications.
You can sow 3-4 pumpkin seeds in pots if you are growing them indoors. Be sure to maintain a temperature of 70°-90° F while you are on with the germination process of the pumpkin seeds. Generally within 10 days the germination process gets over and its time for the transplantation of the germinated seeds. The soil should be warm enough during transplantation. Also regular watering is a must. The September and October months are the harvesting period for pumpkins. Take out the pumpkins by cutting them from vines cautiously when they are matured. If you are not consuming them immediately and wish to store them; then keep them in sunlight for some days before storage. Remember to maintain a temperature of 50°-60° F while they are in storage. Do not store them for more than 3 months otherwise they will start rotting. Also keep them away from contact with frost and snow when in storage.
