How to grow morel mushrooms

Unknown to many the morel mushrooms similar to the other plants and crops is grown by following carefully a simple procedure.

Wood is used for gathering morel mushrooms. The early spring is the time when these generally occur. It is interesting to know that these can be very slippery and elusive at the same time but can be easily marked at places where there has been a recent forest fire. They may be located under the corners of the trees that have been naturally downed.

A bag or a box may be used to keep the morels fresh. A refrigerator might be used as well to keep them moist and cool. A sterilized paper clip may be used for piercing the stem of a mushroom that is the healthiest amongst all the collected ones. This must be done in a neat and clean area with highest degree of hygiene.

The mushroom is then hung making the use of the paperclip over a Petri dish that has been freshly prepared. The morel mushroom is then allowed to drop its spores onto the petri dish. While this goes on the person conducting the activity gently works with ones fingers on the product. The mushroom may be left hanging over the dish if initially no spores are witnessed falling.

The agar plate is sealed and properly covered, after which it is stored in the temperature range of 55-80F. In order to prevent moisture from building in it the plate may be inverted. The spores after a considerable time will start sending out their mycelil strand over the agar plate. They appear in the form of a web that extends over the entire dish. The sections may either be transplanted or inoculated once the entire dish seems to have been colonized.
